Corbett Permit
Securing Permits and Accommodation Reservations

Jim Corbett National Park is secured and abided by laws and regulations. Complying with these rules and regulations is an integral part of your tour. The supreme authority of Corbett National Park caters to two different types of tourism services – day safari and FRH or the Forest Rest House, both of which are guided and set by the authority. To demand entry inside the reserve park, you would be asked to show or submit your permit from the concerned authority. The day safari permit can be obtained at the entry gate of the zone you are travelling to, while the night halt permit for different resorts is issued at the Corbett Reserve Park reception office in Ramnagar City. Both the day safari and the FRH can be booked digitally in advance. However, neither of them is refundable nor transferrable. The supreme authorities demand utter compliance and cooperation from the tourists for their journey to be hassle-free and as safe as possible. The forest remains open for venturing from November mid to the mid of June. However, one zone that remains open throughout the year is the Jhirna zone. It is important to note that the park gates are closed after sunset, and no entry is allowed after that.

Day Visit Permit in Dhikala Zone: Canter Safar
If you are a nature wilderness enthusiast who desires to experience the beauteous side of
nature at the pace of a jeep, then canter safari is best for you. Explore the untamed wildlife
unfolding in its natural habitat inside the Corbett Reserve during the daytime.
The park features eco-tourism zones allowing Jeep safaris, except for the Dhikala zone.
Dhikala zone is available for only those tourists who have made prior bookings for a night
stay in the Dhikala Forest Rest House. However, Canter is made available to tourists visiting
during the day, and it is the only option for exploring the Dhikala zone if you have yet to
make any prior bookings for the forest house.
Talking Canter Safari is a bus safari featuring 16 seats operated by the forest authority only in
the Dhikala Zone. Making advance reservations for your canter safari for an enhanced
experience is always wise and good. This will allow you to have a seat reserved on the bus on
time when you visit the Corbett Tiger Reserve.
It is advisable for all types of tourists – from Indians to Foreigners to have their reservations
done well in advance for an unforgettable and hassle-free wilderness experience. Waiting for
on-the-spot reservations can be bothersome and more complicated as availability varies from
time to time and season to season. So, be adventure-ready with bookings.
Permit for Elephant Safari
Elephant safari is yet another way of exploring the magnificent natural beauty spread across
the landscapes of Jim Corbett National Park. However, in a recent order and legal compliance
matter, the government of Uttarakhand has banned the employment of commercial activities
such as using elephants for safaris.
Exploring the wilderness with another naturally untamed and wild creature can be thrilling
and relishing, especially for your little ones. Elephant ride for safari purposes is available
only in Bijrani and Dhikala zones. However, this elephant safari is only open to tourists at the
Forest Rest House. But in the Bijrani zone of the reserve, visitors can enjoy an elephant ride
after paying at the camp.
It is important to note that a few elephants are available for safari purposes and are made
available on a first-come-first-serve basis only.
Children up to 5 years of age are complimentary with the adults. The total number of adults
allowed to venture on a single elephant is only four. Another critical thing to note is that
elephant safari is available on all days of the week except for Monday since it is reserved as
the resting day for elephants.
Permit for Accommodation at Forest Rest House
If you wish to venture into the wild for an extended period of time, then making prior
reservations for your stay is a must. Taking the accommodation permit at the Forest Rest
House, tourists are allowed for a minimum of one night and a maximum of three nights only.
This is because Corbett's peak tourist seasons are always continuous endeavours, and the
spaces somehow are limited to accommodate tourists for prolonged periods.
Some of the options which are available to tourists for stays are:
- Halduparao
- Mundiapani
- Morghatti
- Sendhikhal
- Dhela
- Rathuadhab
- Lohachaur
You can remit the necessary tariffs in advance by making prior bookings for your stay at the
Forest Rest House. Once you are done with the reservation arrangements for your
accommodations, you can collect the permits from the reception office of Ramnagar
Reception Office before entering the park.
One important aspect of reserving your stay at the Corbett National Park, Forest Rest House,
is that you must be quicker and more advanced. Advanced booking saves you from last-
minute hassles and plan delays, and cancellations. Tourists can only obtain permits from the
FRH authorities at a later time or on the spot.
Indian tourists are advised to make the accommodation reservations 45 days in advance,
while foreigners are requested to make the reservations 90 days in advance.
Those who still need an accommodation or a chance to stay in the FRH can reserve their
stays at the exotic resorts, star lodges and regular lodges near the National Park. These are
privately run lodges of the Corbett Tiger Reserve. Tourists can pay frequent visits to the park
for as long as they want.
